Pre shade and tidying up Kirke's Lambs

Early days Pre Shading and highlighting

Lurkio 15mm nine years war range arrive

My first batch of Lurkio 15mm arrived and a few were quickly based and undercoated.
I paint humbrol matt 62 first, then a wash of black oil to highlight.
It works for me but may no be to everyone's taste.
My first impressions of these figures is real enthusiasm I can see a load more being purchased and the service was first class able to pay online and delivered in under a week.

These will be painted as The Queen Dowager's or Kirke's Lambs.

Pretenders T.V serial set in 1685

1972 and HTV bring out a children's serial called Pretenders.
Pretenders was a 13 episode British television series produced by Harlech Television (HTV) in the UK in February 1972 on ITV. Pretenders was filmed in Somerset, England and Wales.
The 13-part historical adventure series (set in 1685) with a factual background starring Frederick Jaeger as a German mercenary who assists Elam (Curtis Arden), a boy who believes he is the illegitimate son of The Duke Of Monmouth, who in turn is the illegitimate son of Charles II and therefore claims to be rightful heir to the throne. The series followed their various adventures, leading up to the climactic battle of Sedgemoor, the last battle on English soil.
This was repeated in 1985 in time for the 300th anniversary on most ITV networks.
Rumours circulate of it being released on Betamax video but I have never been able to establish this, nor if the series has been lost/wiped or forgotten in an archive.
It seems to have disappeared into thin air.
If they can find lost Dr Who's there is hope. So any information on this please contact me.
On the subject of Dr Who, I once new the writer of two episodes of Pretenders who also wrote for Dr Who and is credited with helping to create K-9!
Dave Martin was his name a most fascinating man to talk with over a pint in the George Hotel Bridport, sadly he passed away a few years back and although talking to him about Pretenders it never cropped up about whether the series had ever been put on video for public release.

Paint stripping figures with Dettol

While waiting for my figures I thought I would share this great method of removing paint from old metal figures.
(I have yet to try it on plastic).
First buy some Dettol disinfectant. It must be DETTOL and the neat Dettol not the pine variety.
Remove figures from card/wood bases soaking in warm water helps this.
Find a plastic container with a lid like an ice cream tub.
Lay figures flat in the box.
Pour over Dettol
Put lid on box. It pongs! I put mine near an open window.
Leave over night.
And before your very eyes the paint falls off!

Now wear rubber gloves or those plastic throw away variety. Believe me Dettol BURNS!
Use an old toothbrush under a running cold tap to remove the sludge.
Repeat the process if necessary.

All a question of scale....

I have been searching around for figures but more importantly scale is an issue as the eyes are not as sharp as when I first started painting 40 years ago.
So 6mm was soon discounted. I looked long and hard, excuse the pun at the fine 10mm League of Augsburg range from Pendraken they are very tempting a possible paint but I know my eyes will find it a strain. So either 15mm or 25/28mm. Well I once painted both armies for a Sedgemoor project in 28mm mainly Dixon and Essex, 20 years ago they seemed more affordable, the Dixon and Essex moulds are still the same so now look dated, as for the latest 28mm manufacturers in this range, price is a major factor and one producer was only casting to order so delivery time would become another factor here. That left me with 15mm and with scale creep that's almost 20mm.
So I looked around. Essex, Irregular, Magistar all pushed some buttons but then I discovered Lurkio miniatures. New to me and a nine years war range in big chunkey 15mm ready made units....
I'M SOLD! so an order will be placed.
